THE REC SJI STANDARDS
The Rec SJI has brought together a team of experienced, educated, and motivated professionals in the industry whose
common goal is to provide a positive atmosphere for all of its members to reach their personal sport/fitness goals.
Simply put, we have spared no expense in order to provide high level facilities, equipment, and staff to benefit our
members, and expect our members to respect that and contribute to our positive atmosphere. All members agree to follow
the THE REC SJI member rules.
Golden Rule: Respect others, yourself, and your gym community!
RESPECT THE GYM & FACILITY
- Re-rack all weights and equipment after use
- Use chalk appropriately and clean up your mess
- Give people space when lifting free weights & dumbbells
- Use bumper plates for all exercises where you drop weight
- Wipe down your equipment after use
- Do not misuse the equipment & machines
- Do not hog the rack!
MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT
The REC SJI reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who has been accused or convicted of any
crime involving sexual abuse, has ever been convicted of any offense relating to the use, sale, possession, or
transportation of narcotics or habit-forming and/or dangerous drugs, or is presently or habitually under the influence
of dangerous drugs or chemicals, narcotics, or intoxicating beverages.
Members and guests are encouraged to take responsibility for their personal safety by asking any person whose behavior
threatens their safety to refrain from such behavior. Anyone who feels uncomfortable in confronting a person directly
should report the behavior to a staff member on duty. The REC SJI staff members are eager to be of assistance. Members
and guests should not hesitate to notify a staff member if assistance is needed. In order to be able to carry out
these policies, we ask that members and guests identify themselves to staff when asked.

Suspension or termination of The REC SJI membership privileges may result from a determination by the Owner if in
his/her discretion a violation of the REC SJI Member’s Code of Conduct has occurred. - Key Fobs remain the property of the REC SJI and must be surrendered upon demand of the REC SJI.
- All fees paid for membership including Joining Fees are non-refundable.

The REC SJI also has my permission to photograph or tape myself, spouse, and child(ren) while participating in REC
SJI activities.
MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT
THE REC SJI is committed to providing a safe and welcoming training environment for all members, athletes, and guests.
To promote safety and maintain a hardworking and respectful atmosphere, all individuals are asked to act appropriately
at all times when in our facility or participating in our programs.
We expect persons using The REC SJI to act maturely, behave responsibly, and respect the rights and dignity of others.
Our Member’s Code of Conduct outlines prohibited behavior, but the actions listed below are not an all-inclusive list
of behaviors considered inappropriate in our facilities or programs:
- Using or possessing alcohol or illegal chemicals on The REC SJI property
- Smoking in The REC SJI facility
- Carrying or concealing a weapon or any device or object that may be used as a weapon
- Use of cell phones in The REC SJI’s shower and locker room areas

Use of any video/picture taking equipment, including camera phones, in The REC SJI’s shower rooms, locker rooms, and
fitness center area - Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language, or any type of menacing behavior
- Physical contact with another person in an angry, aggressive or threatening way
- Verbally abusive behavior, including angry or vulgar language, swearing, name-calling, or shouting
- Sexually explicit conversation or behavior: any sexual contact with another person
- Inappropriate, immodest, or sexually revealing attire
- Theft or behavior that results in the destruction or loss of property
- Loitering within or on the grounds of The REC SJI
In addition, the REC SJI reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who has been accused or convicted
of any crime involving sexual abuse, is or has been a registered sex offender, has ever been convicted of any offense
relating to the use, sale, possession, or transportation of narcotics or habit-forming and/or dangerous drugs, or is
presently or habitually under the influence of dangerous drugs or chemicals, narcotics, or intoxicating beverages.
If a member or guest feels uncomfortable, they should report the behavior to staff immediately. In order to carry out
these policies, we ask that members and guests identify themselves when asked. The general manager will investigate all
reported incidents. Suspension or termination of The REC SJI membership privileges may result if, in his or her
discretion, a violation of the Code of Conduct has occurred.
ACCESSING CLUBS
Members are required to check in at the front desk upon entry to any The Rec SJI. The Rec SJI reserves the right to
require members and guests to maintain a photo or copy of photo identification on file in order to verify identity
before entering any club.
STEAM & SAUNA ETIQUETTE
Our steam and saunas are shared public spaces. Please wear light clothing. Nudity is prohibited. No outdoor shoes. Do
not pour water on the sauna heater or hang clothes to dry. Please do not work out in the steam room or sauna. You may
not engage in sexual activity in these rooms, or any of our spaces. These spaces are monitored for enhanced safety.
FACILITY AGE USE GUIDELINES
- Children ages 13 and over are allowed in our REC SJI facilities with a minor waiver executed.

Children ages 12 and under are only allowed in our REC SJI facilities while under the supervision of a parent or
guardian, or are registered and participating in a REC SJI program with instructor supervision, with an executed
minor’s waiver.
ACCIDENTS
Contact a REC SJI staff person immediately if there is an accident, injury or unusual incident. We are here to assist
you. Please be advised that you are participating in all activities at your own risk and are fully responsible for
yourself, your children and your guests.
LOCKERS
Lockers are provided solely for your convenience. You are responsible for locking your locker. The Rec SJI reserves
the right to remove any articles left in a locker overnight.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS & VALUABLES
Members and guests should avoid bringing any valuables into our facilities – e.g. jewelry, laptops, valuable
electronics, large amounts of cash – including into our locker rooms or lockers. The Rec SJI will not be held liable
for the loss, theft or damage to any personal property members or guests bring on club property.
LOST AND FOUND
REC SJI is not responsible for lost or stolen property. However, we do keep lost and found items whenever possible.
Please check with the front desk for the location.
AUTO-RENEW TO MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP
If you have a term membership, your membership will automatically renew at the end of your term as a monthly membership
at the membership rate on your account. To avoid this automatic renewal, you must submit a membership cancellation
request at least 30 days before the end of your term membership.
MEMBERSHIP HOLDS
To keep billing clear and consistent for all members, hold requests must be submitted before the date you would like
them to begin. We are not able to apply holds retroactively or adjust billing once a hold period has already passed.
Holds may not exceed six(6) months without prior administrative approval. All requests for extended holds must be
submitted in writing to support@therecsji.com for review and authorization.
There is a $35.00 one-time hold fee per hold that is placed on an individual membership account.
LAP SWIM RESERVATION NO-SHOW
Out of respect for all of our members, we have a Lap Swim Reservation No-Show Fee for all classes and sessions that
allow reservations. This fee will be debited automatically from your bank account or credit card on file for missed
reservations based on the following criteria:
- Cancellations less than 60 minutes prior to class start time will result in a $10 fee.
- Reservations can be canceled through The Rec SJI app or by calling the club and speaking with a representative.
MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION POLICY
All memberships can be cancelled for any reason* upon providing 30-days’ notice to The Rec SJI.
To be effective, all cancellations must be done in one of the following three ways:

Emailing support@therecsji.com with the name and birthday of the person
cancelling. -
By stating in a letter that you wish to cancel, sent by certified mail return receipt requested, and mailed to The
Rec 689 Airport Center #118 Friday Harbor WA 98250.
No cancellations will be accepted via telephone. A member may not cancel their membership while their account is in
freeze status. Cancellations will only be effective upon payment of all outstanding fees and dues. For online
cancellations, you will receive an email confirmation once your cancellation request has been reviewed. If you do not
receive an email within 72 hours of submitting the request, please contact us immediately.
NO OUTSIDE TRAINERS
Use of personal trainers who are not employed by The Rec is strictly prohibited at all club facilities. You may not
provide personal training services to, or receive personal training services from, any other member or guest.
NO VERBAL AGREEMENTS
At The Rec SJI, we do not honor any verbal agreements. All terms must be in your membership contract.
REPORTING CONCERNS
- If you witness or experience any conduct that violates this code, report it to our staff or management promptly.
- We take all concerns seriously and will investigate and address them accordingly.
The Rec SJI reserves the right to enforce these rules and may, at its discretion, suspend or terminate membership or
access to the facility for individuals who repeatedly or severely violate this code of conduct.
By using The Rec SJI facilities, you agree to abide by this code of conduct and help us maintain a positive and
respectful atmosphere for all. Thank you for being a valued member of our community.
GENERAL CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS
All members, guests, and participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes safety, respect,
and professionalism at all times. The Rec SJI reserves the right to suspend or revoke access for behavior deemed
unsafe, disruptive, or contrary to these standards.
ASSUMPTION OF RISK
Participation in fitness, athletic, recreational, instructional, and training activities—including but not limited to
strength training, conditioning, group classes, aquatic activities, and combat-style training—involves inherent risks
of injury. Members knowingly and voluntarily assume all such risks, whether arising from their own actions, the
actions of others, or facility conditions.
MOCK COMBAT & CONTACT TRAINING ACTIVITIES
The Rec SJI permits structured mock combat and contact-based training activities, which may include but are not limited
to:
- Practice sword or fencing-style drills (with training weapons)
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling
- Boxing and striking drills
- Wrestling and takedown training
- Other controlled martial or combat-sport activities
Participation in these activities is strictly voluntary and subject to the following conditions:
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Participants are solely responsible for using appropriate protective equipment relevant to the activity (e.g., fencing
masks, headgear, mouthguards, gloves, padding).
CONTROLLED CONDUCT
All mock combat activities must remain controlled, technical, and non-hostile. Reckless, excessive, or intentionally
harmful behavior is strictly prohibited.
SKILL & EXPERIENCE RESPONSIBILITY
Participants acknowledge differences in size, strength, experience, and skill level and agree to train responsibly and
within their personal limits.
SHARED SPACE AWARENESS
Participants acknowledge that The Rec SJI is a shared-use facility and that other members or guests may enter or be
present in the general area. Participants accept responsibility for maintaining awareness and adjusting activity as
necessary to prevent harm to others.
NO SUPERVISION GUARANTEE
The Rec SJI does not guarantee instruction, supervision, refereeing, or enforcement during mock combat or contact
activities unless expressly stated. Participation may occur with or without staff present.
IMMEDIATE CESSATION UPON REQUEST
Any activity must stop immediately if directed by staff or if safety concerns arise.
PROHIBITED CONDUCT
The following behaviors are not permitted and may result in immediate removal or termination of membership:
- Intentionally striking or injuring another person outside agreed-upon training parameters
- Using non-training weapons or unsafe equipment
- Engaging in unsanctioned fights or altercations
- Training under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Ignoring staff direction related to safety or conduct
INJURY RESPONSIBILITY
All participants accept full responsibility for any injuries sustained during participation in mock combat or
contact-based activities, whether caused by themselves, another participant, or incidental contact with equipment,
structures, or bystanders.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
By entering the facility and/or participating in any activities, the member acknowledges that they have read,
understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and accept all associated risks.
